January programme - a mix of new and old favourites

Our January programme will be a good balance of ‘busy’ and time to ‘slow down’. There are also new activities we haven’t done before, and some of the old favourites.

Beach Day is always one of our most popular days and it is so nice to be able to enjoy the awesome Hawke’s Bay outdoors and everything it has to offer. We go back to Weka Point – children often start this day with a few nerves but by the time we say it is time to get on the bus, they are asking if they can stay longer.

Our Hawke’s Bay sun is harsh and it’s a must that children and staff wear hats when they’re outside, so this year we start the holiday programme by tie dying white bucket hats that we will provide.

There are no hidden costs at our holiday programme - all that’s needed each day is appropriate clothing and footwear, food for the day, a hat, and togs and a towel. You never know when we will get a sprinkler and water slides out so those togs and a rash shirt if you have one, are a must. We have sunscreen on site to reapply as necessary.

We’re excited about our new activities – we’ve teamed up with a local waka ama group and will spend a full day learning all there is to learn about this.

We’re going to give sushi making a go and it won’t be just the children learning how to do this! And there will be new tricks to learn with the yoyo we will supply each child on that day.

Covid and increasing costs of activities are creating challenges when we begin planning but we think this programme has something for every child.
