YMCA Hawke’s Bay now deliver outdoor education programmes for all types of groups in the Bay. Programme Manager, Kevin Webb, has 25 years’ experience in outdoor instruction, and heads the Outdoor Education activities. He has the experience (more than 20 years successfully operating activities in the Hawke’s Bay outdoors) to enable learning through adventure in the outdoors for everyone.

Kevin and the team at the YMCA are passionate about developing young people and their aim for Y-Adventure is to offer an experience to transform peoples lives. We believe every person should have the opportunity to be in the outdoors, and learn about the great New Zealand wilderness.

We have programmes and initiatives for everyone, no matter what their background or ability. Our aim is to help young people push their boundaries, grow in confidence and discover capabilities they didn’t know they had.

Let's Abseil

Abseiling is going down a steep cliff or drop while being kept safe by rope systems.

Participants are equipped with harness and helmet, instructed in descent techniques and then will lower themselves down the cliff while under the safety of a qualified instructor.

Participants are challenged to face fears, to step outside of their comfort zone, to encourage each other, and to build trust and confidence within one’s self.

All safety and technical equipment is provided. Please ensure participants are wearing closed-toe shoes and shorts or trousers.

There may be some waiting around during the session so please ensure that everyone attending the site has enough clothes to keep warm and dry.

The activity is weather dependant but will continue in light rain. In the case of bad weather, we will have a backup day to transfer to if it works for you. If weather forces postponement, we will let you know as far in advance as we can.

YMCA HB offer a range of activities and services at a number of different locations in the Hawkes Bay and beyond. Safety is always our first priority. We are professionally audited by Outdoorsmark under the Adventurous Activities regulations. Our instructors are first aid qualified and carry first aid kits on all activities.
