This week marks an exciting milestone for the future of The Y Hawke’s Bay 🙌
At first glance, the photos might look like a bit of summer fun—but they actually capture the very beginning of Stage One of our Y Hawke’s Bay Outdoor Adventure Hub, based at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Sports Park.
This week, we took our very first test groups out on the water.
Children from our Marewa, Raureka, and Taradale Y-Kids Holiday Programmes were the first to trial the space and activities, helping us test safety drills, session structures, equipment, and systems. These sessions were a crucial learning opportunity, allowing us to refine how the Hub will operate and ensuring we’re building something safe, engaging, and fit-for-purpose as we move forward.
What’s coming to the Outdoor Adventure Hub?
The initial offerings at the Hub will include:
Rafting and kayaking on the outdoor canoe polo pool
Archery, orienteering, and team-building activities on land
The canoe polo pool is a fantastic local resource that remains largely under-utilised during the day, and we’re proud to be activating this space in a way that benefits tamariki and rangatahi from across the region.
Our full vision also includes relocating our mobile climbing wall to the site and having it operational as soon as practicable. This work is already underway, alongside the necessary WorkSafe and Qualmark accreditations. While these processes take time, we’re very much on a positive and well-planned path forward.
Built with young people at the centre:
What makes this initiative special is that it’s being shaped by the very young people it’s designed for. These early test sessions allow us to listen, learn, and adapt, ensuring the Hub is youth-centred, flexible, and genuinely engaging.
We can’t wait to continue growing this initiative and creating more opportunities for tamariki and rangatahi across Hawke’s Bay, from water-based adventures to climbing, archery, orienteering, and team-building experiences 🛶🧗♂️🎯
This is just the beginning.
We’re incredibly proud to be building something meaningful for local schools, whānau, and young people, right here in the Bay, and we’re excited to share more as the Outdoor Adventure Hub continues to take shape 💙
Watch this space, Adventure awaits.
